GREENWAY FIELDS BLOCK CAPTAIN PROGRAM

Block Captains are resident liaisons that facilitate communication, and distribute information, between residents and GFHA. These volunteer leaders promote community engagement and participation among neighbors, building strong relationships. There is no special training to become a block captain, just an interest and willingness to get to know your neighbors. GFHA has 24 blocks and many already have block captains fulfilling this role, but we do have some vacancies. If you are interested in becoming a block captain, come to the Annual Meeting on April 25th or reach out to board@greenwayfields.org.

SECURITY UPDATE

In my role as Security Director, I monitor the KCPD crime map on a weekly basis so I am informed of recent crimes in the area.  The good news is that crime in Greenway Fields occurs rarely!  I communicate as needed with Sargeant Sebastien Hanriot, our KCPD off duty officer.

FRIENDLY REMINDER

Sargeant Hanriot keeps a “house to watch list” which provides KCPD officers information about residents who are out of town.  If you plan to be out of town and want them to keep an eye on your home, please email  Sebastien.hanriot@kcpd.org  and provide your name, home address, phone number and dates you will be away.

KCPD officers continue to patrol our neighborhood at various times throughout the week.  Auto break-ins tend to be our most recent form of crime so please make sure to keep your car doors locked and don’t leave valuables in sight.  Similarly, keep your doors to your house locked and use a security or “smart” type doorbell.  Here are a few important tips:

1.  If a crime occurs:  Call 911.
2.  If you hear sirens and helicopters:  Go inside and lock your doors.
3.  If you happen to see a crime occur (or a suspected criminal):   Do not approach the person.  If you are able to safely get a description of the person please do so and call 911 with the details.  The police have been responsive when called, so use 911.

Lastly, please contact me, Kirsten.potter@greenwayfields.org if you have any security concerns.  Note that we do not monitor the Greenway Fields Facebook page so any message that you post there may not be seen by me or other board members. Thanks!
